My Day Camp

Hello, my name is Austin. I am a sixty-pound lab coonhound mix. Today is going to be a great day! When I woke up, my daddy asked me if I wanted to go to Doggie Day Camp at Petropolis. I immediately jumped up, wagging my tail as if to say, “Yes, oh please, YES!”

Climbing into the car, my dad secured me in my special seat belt he bought at Petropolis. I lay calm until we arrived at our destination. My father couldn’t unbuckle my seat belt fast enough. I would have pulled my dad all the way in, but during my personal training sessions at Petropolis my personal trainer Rob has taught me not to do this. As we calmly walked inside, my arrival was announced over the loud speaker, “DAY CAMP to reception for Austin.” This was music to my ears. I started wagging my tail. I knew this meant Miss Nancy was coming to greet me. The kennel door opened and out came Miss Nancy. She spoke to my father, took my leash and escorted me to my personal condo.

At around 9:30 the fun began. We were led outside to the great big fun yards. My best friends, Chopper, Rocky, Darby, Jake and Abby were all there. As a special treat because it was so nice and warm out – we got to play in the swimming pools!! Miss Nancy, who has worked at Petropolis for thirteen years and is an expert at Day Camp, threw the ball, and we rushed after it, retrieved it and repeated the game. I ran and ran with my good buddy Lucky. We chased and ran after each other for about two hours.

After the two-hour morning session we returned to our private condos. Exhausted from our play period, I chose to sleep, as did most of my buddies. I woke up around 1:30 p.m. just a few minutes before the scheduled second play session. To my surprise I discovered the second session was a birthday party. These are my favorite days! Miss Nancy help us celebrate birthdays as well as most of the major holidays. We get special doggie cake and play special games to win prizes. Petropolis has one big Day Camp party a month. At the end of the play session, I lay down in my private condo until my father or mother picks me up. I was just about asleep when I heard my name called over the intercom, “Day Camp, we are ready for Austin.” I knew it was time to go home. As I was led through the kennel doors by Gina, I saw my mother and ran to greet her. We were hardly out of the parking lot before I was fast asleep in the car. This was the best day and I cannot wait to do it all over again in a few days.
