Service Dog Fundraiser
In addition to finding homes for hundreds of animals, Petropolis is raising funds to purchase and train service dogs for people who can benefit from their assistance.
We have two families that we are currently assisting with the funds; the first is a family with an autistic child, named Alexander. The second is a quadraplegic motivational speaker named Matt Lorton.
Watch Video of Matt Explaining How a Service Dog Will Help Him And Others:
About Matt:
Matt broke his neck while playing in the back yard pool with friends and family. The spinal cord injury left him a quadriplegic.
Matt does not let his disability define him. He defines his abilities. Over the past decade he has taken his story of life to venues of all ages and backgrounds; k-12, universities, organizations, corporations, and churches.

About Alexander:
Alexander was diagnosed with autism in October of 2009. His parents, Crystal and Darren, want to get him a service dog because of the therapeutic affect they can have on children with developmental delays.
Sometimes when Alexander doesn't know his own strength. He can be violent when doesn't get his way, or is frustrated. He has more than three temper tantrums per day and has trouble controlling himself. He usually sleeps with his parents because he has found a way to escape through every door and window in the house.
Alexander's grandmother has two small dogs, and when he is around them he is more vocal, answering yes or no to questions, saying please and even thank you, and trying to tell his parents what he wants. His parents are looking forward to seeing how having a service dog can greatly assist with Alexander's day-to-day.
Service dogs can greatly benefit both Matt and Alexander, as well as many others.
