Puppy Services

We want to help you raise a happy, healthy, confident dog, and that starts in puppyhood! Our puppy services are all designed to help socialize your pup to new people, places, and experiences.

Puppy Socialization

Just like human children, puppies carry their early experiences for the rest of their lives. That’s why it’s so important to introduce your puppy to new people, places, and experiences during their socialization period.

What is puppy socialization?

When many people think of puppy socialization, they imagine their puppy playing with other dogs. And while that’s an important component, puppy socialization is so much more. Socializing your puppy means introducing them to the world around them and making positive associations with new things. We want your pup to learn that the world is a safe, fun place so they can grow up to be a confident, happy dog.

The best time to socialize a puppy

The best time to socialize a puppy is from three to 16 weeks old. This is when they are susceptible to learning and most open to trying new things. If your puppy is older than 16 weeks, don’t worry! It’s never too late to introduce your pup to the world around them and create positive associations with new things. We start training as early as 8 weeks, so call to schedule a free one-hour training evaluation! Our training team is experienced both in introducing new things and in re-introducing things your pup might be unsure of.

Puppy daycare

Puppy daycare at Petropolis is a safe, convenient way to get your puppy the invaluable socialization they need at a young age. Our doggy daycare for puppies takes advantage of their critical socialization window where they are most susceptible to learning. While they are with us, they will learn socialization skills with other dogs and new people, setting them up for a lifetime of confidence in new situations. Plus, you won’t have to worry about them staying home alone during the day, meaning you won’t come home to accidents in the house or destructive behavior.

Your pup will spend their first day of puppy daycare with our Canine Evaluator, who will get to know them and match them with a play group that fits their size, energy level, and play style. They will get their energy out playing in our all-seasons heated and cooled play pavilion and romping in our dog water park, Canine Cove. Plus, they’ll learn basic manners and communication skills by playing and interacting with other dogs.

Common Puppy Training Goals

potty training your puppy

A new puppy parent’s first priority, more often than not, is potty training. While most of the work must happen at home, our trainers are available to advise you on the best way to potty train your puppy. Plus, we give puppies extra potty walks while they’re with us to keep them on-track and prevent accidents.

How to stop your puppy from biting

Puppies play with their littermates by biting and wrestling, and while this might work well with other puppies, it can be a problem when they’re playing with people (especially children). With the help of our training team, your puppy will learn communication skills and manners when playing, meaning fewer puppy bites and more rewarding play.

Polite greetings without jumping

It might be cute when your tiny puppy jumps on you, but it won’t be so cute when you pup is grown up. That’s why it’s important to teach puppies how to greet people politely. Whether you’d just like your puppy to keep all four feet on the floor or you’d rather they sit for greetings, our training team will work with your goals to teach your pup their manners.

Crate training your puppy

Whether or not you want your puppy to sleep in a crate at night, crate training is an important skill to master. It can come in handy when traveling, when visitors come over, and in emergency situations. We will help your puppy learn to love their crate and give you the tools to keep them enriched and entertained while they’re crated.

Basic Skills and Manners

We don’t just teach dogs to do as they’re told. Instead, we want to teach dogs the manners necessary to explore the world with their person. A puppy who learns manners young grows into an adaptable, polite dog who you can trust in different situations.

Leash training your puppy

One of the most common reasons older dogs require training is for their leash skills. Teach your pup early and ensure a lifetime of proper leash skills! We teach puppies loose-leash walking skills and encourage them to keep their focus on their handler, not whatever distractions might cross their path.

Life-saving skills

When many dog owners think of skills like ‘stay,’ ‘come,’ and ‘leave it,’ they think of them as handy tricks. At Petropolis, we recognize these for what they really are – life-saving skills. Chances are, you’ll use at least one of these over the course of your pet’s life, so we believe in teaching these skills before they’re necessary. That way, when you need it, your dog will know it.

Puppy Boarding

We know you don’t want to leave your new puppy, but if you must, trust the puppy experts! Our puppy boarding options are designed with puppies’ needs in mind. We offer extra one-on-one attention to socialize your pup, group play with other puppies to get their energy out, and extra potty walks to keep them on-track with potty training. Our upgraded villas also offer 24/7 webcam access so you can keep an eye on your pup from anywhere in the world.

Puppy Grooming

The key to raising a happy, empowered pet is socialization and acclimation. By creating a relaxing and happy grooming experience, we hope to build a foundation for a lifetime of stress-free grooming visits for both you and your pet.
